Import & export

Everyone comes from Excel — the import brings your existing list into the system in minutes. And whatever Mango Inventory shows, you get back out at any time: every table view as CSV or Excel.

Importing

  1. Upload the file: CSV, XLSX or XLS — or paste rows straight from Excel. The import understands the usual Swiss notations (dates as dd.MM.yyyy, numbers with apostrophes as thousands separators). Choose what you’re importing: items, locations or people.

  2. Map columns: the AI suggests the mapping automatically — you review and adjust where needed. Every column of your file gets a target — built-in fields (name, category, location, responsible person, model) or your custom fields. Location paths like “Building/Ground floor/Room 101” are mapped onto the location tree.

    When you re-import the same list — say, the monthly export from your accounting system — Mango Inventory remembers your confirmed mapping: columns with the same headers are already mapped next time (“X columns taken over from your last import”). Columns you didn’t map stay skipped in the future too. Remap a column and import again, and the new mapping applies from then on.

  3. Review: the preview shows every row with warnings and errors — cells can be corrected right in the preview. The “Will be created” box shows every category and location the import would newly create — you confirm each entry explicitly before the import starts: confirm, map to an existing category or location, rename (say, for a typo) or don’t create at all. “Confirm all” is the fast path when everything is right. New models are still only announced; people are never created automatically.

  4. Import: name and category are required for every row — if either is missing, the row is marked as an error and skipped. Everything else never blocks: a row with an invalid value is still created, just without that value and marked “Incomplete”.

Every import appears in the import history and can be undone there as a whole — the imported items disappear; categories and locations that came along stay.

Exporting

In the items table, the menu at the top right exports exactly the current view: active filters, visible columns in their order, sorting — as CSV or as an Excel file with a real table (filter arrows, frozen header row, typed cells with Swiss number and date formats).

Stocktake reports can be exported as CSV or Excel too.
